Dunedin U-16 Boys Champions
Congratulations to our U-16 Boys team
for winning the 2009 Score-at-the-Shore Tournament.
When we entered the Score At The Shore tournament, we did so with the sole purpose to compete,
and ready ourselves for State Cup. Knowing the upper caliber of teams that competed there,
it seemed like a nice challenge for our lads. Then the hurdles began to spring up,
one player quit, another left for boarding school, and suddenly we were only 12.
Concerned, many asked if we could get some guest players, more bodies, to ease the load.
Feeling that it's time for us to define ourselves, we went ahead, with our dozen players,
and something strange began to happen... We began believing in each other, and ourselves.
The many lessons that Don Tobin has taught us, started sinking in, being first to the ball,
and knowing where we're going next, combination play, etc. We we're playing with elite teams,
holding our own, and getting better each game. Against Dixie Super Nova, a Canadian team,
we had 3 men injured, and continued playing, actually appearing as though we had the man advantage.
Qualifying for the quarter finals, we drew our nemesis East Lake, and played them even,
despite a huge possession advantage, as well as many scoring opportunities. It was finally
decided in the 9th round of PK's when Kyle Stanton crushed a shot past their keeper.
In the Semi's we wound up with Strictly Soccer, a team rich in history, and huge in size.
Jared Hart struck gold, when he bombed in a rebound near the top of the box. Again we managed
the clock, and played our possession game. In the finals we faced Team Boca, one of the top
teams in the State, in our age group. The game went back and forth, with neither team able
to gain a true advantage. It ended in a draw, and back to another round of PK's. Jason, our
keeper made save after save throughout this tourney, and it now rested on his shoulders.
As usual, he came through, making the saves needed. We went 4 for 5, with all shots on frame,
and Blaed Kribbet hitting the winning shot.
When it was all said, and done, we played 6 games, in three days, injured,
beaten up, and tired, yet no one ever wanted to come out of the games.
We found our hearts, our courage, and mostly our desire.
We now look forward to State Cup, and what we might do with a few more "quality" players...
time will tell. Not too bad for just 12 guys!

Dunedin Mourns the Passing of Coach Gabor Farkasfalvy
A Message from Don Tobin, Director of Coaching:
First of all I would like to extend our prayers and heartfelt sympathy to Gabor's wife, Maria, and his children, Chris and Gabbie.
Gabor was one of the most loyal, genuine and likeable people that I have ever met. I am honored to have called him my dear friend.
Gabor loved life and loved the beautiful game of soccer. When he was asked to coach a team, whether it was a State Cup Champion or a Third Division game, he approached it the same.
His passion and desire to see the kids play good soccer was contagious.
I will miss his humor and our long chats. He was a "good man" with a big heart. He will be missed more than words can say.
Gabor, I know you are in heaven looking down - you have probably already picked out your team mates
for five a side on Sundays, and I am sure you and Puskas will be fighting over who gets to wear the Captain's arm band.
Go Get them!
Good Night my Friend.
Don Tobin and Family.
All the coaching staff, board of directors, players and their families at Dunedin Stirling Soccer Club.
